The philosophy of St John's College is based on that of the Founder of the Marist Brothers of the Schools, Saint Marcellin Champagnat.

Marcellin was born in 1789, the year of the Revolution in France. 

He saw how some rural children were failed by the education system of the day and how others knew so little of their faith and he set about remedying the situation as best he could.

From him rose the Marist teaching order, which has spread throughout the world.

The following five points (called the pillars) give a brief basis of his philosophy:

  • Presence

  • Simplicity

  • Family Spirit

  • Love of  Work

  • In the Way of Mary

Each year the college focuses on one of the above pillars and tries to incorporate it into all facets of school life

La filosofía de St John's College se basa en la del Fundador de los Hermanos Maristas de las Escuelas, San Marcelino Champagnat.


Marcelino nació en 1789, el año de la Revolución en Francia.


Él vio cómo algunos niños de las zonas rurales fueron fallados por el sistema educativo de la época y cómo otros sabían tan poco de su fe y se dedicó a remediar la situación lo mejor que pudo.


De él surgió el orden de enseñanza marista, que se ha extendido por todo el mundo.


Los siguientes cinco puntos (llamados los pilares) dan una breve base de su filosofía:

Cada año, la universidad se centra en uno de los pilares anteriores y trata de incorporarlo en todas las facetas de la vida escolar.
